Estate and letting agents can test how green their business is with a new Sustainability Scorer.

The online tool asks 20 questions on subjects including energy use, waste, transport and sustainable initiatives before giving the business a score.

A score of ‘A’ means that the business is doing everything it possibly can to be environmentally friendly, while an ‘E’ grade means that there is work to be done.

The Sustainability Scorer, launched by home setup service Just Move In, asks questions including whether the business offers virtual viewings, what fuel the company’s vehicles use, and whether the firm offsets its carbon emissions.

Last year, Just Move In’s Getting Our House In Order report found that 85% of agents had implemented virtual viewings in an attempt to reduce their carbon emissions.

More than half – 54% – of  the 150 agents surveyed believe sustainability is becoming more important for the industry, with only a third of agents – 35% – believing their firm is currently sustainable enough, found the report.

Ross Nichols, co-founder of Just Move In, said: “Only a third of agents believe their firm is currently doing enough for the environment, and our free sustainability checker will let them see if that’s the case.

“It only takes five minutes to answer the questions, and our Sold On Sustainability report will help to give some pointers on how to improve the firm’s eco credentials.

“It has been great to see so many agents embracing virtual viewing in a bid to become more sustainable, and we’re hoping to do our bit to help the industry take the next steps.”
