We would like to wish all our readers a very happy festive break: after a difficult year for many agents, you’ve certainly deserved it!
Once again you have helped make EYE the publication that it is, with your engagement with our stories – your suggestions, criticisms, wit and insight.
We would also like to say how very much we appreciate our advertisers, whose support means that we can continue to deliver a daily news service that is completely free of charge to our readers. We have not had to hide our content behind a paywall, and it is our intention that we never will.
EYE has had another year of growth – thanks, as you may have noticed, to a particularly newsy 12 months.
It seems almost a lifetime ago that OnTheMarket floated, but it was only in February; or that Countrywide launched its ‘back to basics’ programme (June), in an announcement which in combination with its second profits warning of the year sent shares plunging; or that Connells closed online agency Hatched, saying that the online business model doesn’t work (September); or that a US private equity firm announced it was buying Zoopla (May).
We have had start-ups, crowdfunding, endless government consultations and calls for evidence, and the expansion of the purple one into Canada and Germany. Not to mention share crashes, profit warnings, price hikes, departures, mergers, closures, successes and failures.
We have also had silly pictures, daft floorplans where the stairs up went one way and came down another or didn’t go anywhere at all, and even dafter valuations of companies yet to launch.
We have tried our best to report on all of them – and next year, we look forward to doing it all over again.
We are now on our annual break, and look forward to seeing you on the other side of the New Year. So, no more newsletters or breaking newsflashes until then . . . but on the other hand, you never know.

Agree!! I got one as well. Can’t believe it could be from one of their competitors?
CW & AgentV might have upset a certain couple of posters in the past, which might explain the dislikes, but I can’t remember the same applying to AH or Woodentop.

Yes, my favourite story was the pictures of agents who decorated their offices. I stole the idea and put snowflakes in the window…oh that was EAToday sorry,, .. but you have done a great job of sh&&ting me up every morning with online stories… bless you.
