Anthony Codling has joined Robert May’s start-up Rummage4Property. His appointment was one of the best known secrets in the industry.
The former City analyst, who rocked the industry earlier this year with claims about the sales rate of Purplebricks, which he said was 51%, this morning told the Financial Times that Rummage has recruited Countrywide plus 30 other estate agents.
It will, he says, offer a listings service at around tenth of the price that Rightmove charges, with a flat fee of £100 per month.
Any increases will be linked to inflation.
Rummage4Property is thought to employ three other people, excluding founder Robert May.
Last Friday, its accounts for the year for the year to the end of March were posted on Companies House, showing cash at the bank of £2,221. The business was incorporated in March 2017.

This is refreshing. Well done Robert.
We need more portals and more avenues to list our properties. A single solution isn’t the answer as our clients like diversity and from my experience, some like rightmove, some like zoopla, some like all the others. Some even like gumtree! beats me.
What I am saying is we need to have choices in where we list, to capture the widest audience. If they all fell into line with your low pricing then it would be a no brainer.
its like crimbo, and this present looks great, but can someone tell me what is inside?
Agents and builders! It is a directory of agents and house builders, who they are, what they sell and where. An agent and house builder centric search system for sales and rentals that helps agents reclaim the digital property space.
So not a search site, just a directory?
Wait and see…it will definitely be worth it.
Administrators appointed!!!
What is refreshing is that this has been a slowburn .no triumphalism without recourse to expensive advertising campaigns or swathes of investors money no false promises
So the very best of luck and well done to Robert. Perhaps he with Anthony Codling might now be in a position to suggest to CWD that it might actually be a good idea to introduce some time served property professionals to the BODS .Plenty of talent in -house
What is great about this whole project is that it is being built for agents by someone who cares about agents!
It’s just like an independent agent building up the best property marketing/sales processes he can for his vendors because he cares about his vendors.
Many congratulations Robert and team.
I wonder if the thumbs down people on here actually believe that a) anyone cares what they think and b) it will have any effect on what Robert and the team have built?
This has to be the longest tease in history.
I guess that the success of this mysterious portal concept is dependent on delivering results to subscribers.
Growing organically, building tech and a team from nothing isn’t a quick process if you want to stay in control of your own project.
As Russell found out external investors can easily take a project off track. Although it has been 3 years, we have something no-one else has put together and paid their way doing so.
The success is not just down to obvious results. We are helping save agents money on their subscription to Rightmove. one agent pays us with 10% of the money he has peeled of his Rightmove subscription in the past 30 months
I have purposefully avoided a lot of proptech as I see so much flim flam however, based on my understanding of what Robert has developed I genuinely look forward to seeing it in action.
This May guy is killing me.
Sorry!
Great news from Mr May and his team and even better news for our under siege industry. I like what I hear about the new project and personally think that the name “Rummage” is a perfect fit, as it does exactly what it says on the tine. Good luck to all concerned.
A very impressive team indeed. Anthony is a breath of fresh air in the proptech world and a very credible advocate for what Rummage has created. It’s also a change to read the name ‘May’ associated with something positive today. 🙂
Glad you could now go public with the news.
Very exciting times for you and the industry.
Another portal, cool.
Thanks – that’s exactly what we think!
I really love the idea of what Robert and his team are producing here and its very evident that he has found a way with many of his clients to get them organically very high on Google, however I really think they need to go back to the drawing board with the name – Rummage isn’t a great name! Good luck to everyone associated with this project though.
Rummage4 naturally abbreviates to RM4 (winky face emoticon) It works on more levels than it doesn’t. This is the 4th generation of proptech for agency I’ve built so is Robert May 4
Thank you and you all for your good wishes, they are very much appreciated.
Great news. A genuine piece of proptech that actually provides real solutions and genuine innovation for agents. The calibre of the people publicly I nvolved with Roberts project speaks volumes.
I wonder if he is still bullish on the CWD stock as he was for 2 years, whilst it plummeted to record lows.

Anthony’s appointment had to be kept a strict secret; to be a good leaver from a well regarded and high profile firm such as Jefferies requires patience, respect and consideration of the personal and corporate factors of those involved.
I am delighted Anthony has joined the team, he is a perfect compliment to an already strong team that is already delivering results I am constantly told are impossible.
Exciting times!
Congratulations Robert,
Should I sell my OTM shares now?
No, I am a strong supporter of OTM, its aims an goals. I have previously said I would like to working closely with Ian and his team.
What I am doing compliments OTM and it’s agents and was design to fit with the original OOPR
