The number of property sales in the UK hit the highest level so far in 2019 last month.

HMRC data shows there were 113,610 residential property transactions on a non-seasonally adjusted basis during October.

This was up 4.2% annually and up 14.4% over the month.

This is the highest number of sales recorded since November last year.

The increase was led by Wales, where transactions increased 6.3% annually and 14.3% on a monthly basis.

Sales were up 4.1% over the year and 15% over the month in England, 4.2% annually in Scotland and 7.9% on a monthly basis, while Northern Ireland saw a 4.6% annual increase and 11.2% monthly rise.

On a seasonally-adjusted basis, transactions were up 4.3% both annually and monthly to 103,680.
