Picture of the Week – and spot what our old teacher used to call a howler.
It’s a nice house and the mistake may have gone unnoticed by the spellcheck. As the word is, sort of, correct.
But oh dear, oh dear – the mistake is repeated.
It has got us thinking, though: what are your favourite (if that’s the right word) spelling mistakes in the agency lexicon?

The rest of the description is also poorly written… We’re not all immune mind you… One of my girls who is actually really bright or so I thought !.. handed me an email enquiry stating it was from Mrs E Wing looking for a val… it was actually a Mrs Ewing.. to this day it’s my absolute nuclear weapon of choice when I need a comeback…. lol…
There is a close near here called ‘Butt Haw Close’. Some time ago a listing appeared on Rightmove for a flat in ‘Butt Wh0re Close’. It was corrected pretty quickly although I did manage to get a screen grab. I wonder if the spell checker was to blame.
(I couldn’t spell it correctly here – with an ‘o’ instead of a zero. Surprising that the Rightmove listing got through at the time.)
Been watching too many David Attenborough documentaries, I expected him to pop out at anytime. The only thing missing was the wildlife …
We walked around the garden and came across a sweet smell of flowers. All trimmed so lovely not a bud out of place and the sun shone happily. Was there we saw a wishing pond full of silver gold and bronze money. So we made a wish, Plonk plonk plonk is what we heard as the coins lie still. Jennifer was near by , watering the new buds. Butteflies fluttered their ivory wings whispering sweet lyrics to birds flying in sky.
Oh, poor David Cliff! It’s all part of his captivating charm.
And he does have magical, snow-scene window displays at Christmas time!!
I can understand “brain farts” and typos, but what I refuse to forgive is people who misspell words and jargon that are a big part of their given field.
“Sought after” is ubiquitous in real estate, and to revert to “sort” betrays a real lack of care for an agent’s craft.
Imagine a lawyer who said “nil and void” to describe a contract. You wouldn’t trust them to fight your battle when the going got tough precisely because they can’t internalise their own field’s personality.
As a buying customer (and as a copywriter) I put a lot of value in how the written word impacts my decision.
If I were the agent, I would have a serious think about how what I write is being perceived by other people.

LOL As if “block paved driveway” is a massive beenfit these days! Shower Cubical, cubicle – Washer Drier, dryer are my two favourites, along with W.C WC.

I Like the the write up (minus the spelling and grammatical errors). Too many agents today just list room sizes and who cares how many TV points, dimmer switches or coved and textured ceilings a property has. At least it sells the lifestyle.
In a past life I have had howlers from my assistant such as ” feature ***** rail” and “fully insulted loft space’, but the grammar error that drives me crazy, and almost everyone does it, is “comprising of”. One may use “comprising….” or “comprised of…” but not “comprising of…” Standards are slipping!

Reminds me of someone who used the word ‘proffessional’ a lot in texts.
Not having a spell checker in the estate agent software we used didnt help.
Credit where credit is due; this company execute some fantastic marketing that really gets them noticed….it’s true what they say “no publicity is bad publicity”.
…I imagine it’s what’s contributed towards their impressive increase in market share and growth over their ten year existence. If I were their competition, I’d be watching nervously!

Reminds me of the time years ago when one of my negs put a set of details together, just off the Master Bedroom was the On-Sweet.
