A £3m house whose sale fell through because the purchaser objected to paying what would have been a huge Stamp Duty bill is now in the final stages of being raffled.

The property is a Huf Haus near Ringwood, on the Hampshire and Dorset borders.

Attempts to sell it via estate agents have so far failed.

It was on with Hamptons at £3.25m, when an offer of £2.92m was accepted. The deal fell through because of Stamp Duty.

Savills were also brought in to sell the property, which was taken off the market after its price was reduced to £2.65m.

Owners Mark and Sharon Beresford are now hoping that their six-bedroom property will find a new owner through the draw, which costs £25 a ticket.

They are also offering a second prize of a new Aston Martin.

The Beresfords are using professional PRs to publicise the raffle – and are still using an estate agent.

St Quintin Property Group is listing the house at £2.75m, but the advert only discusses the draw, not a sale by private treaty.

The same agents are also on Rightmove, but the listing does not appear there.

The property is thought to be the most expensive ever to go into a draw in the UK.

There are 250,000 tickets available but there is no information as to how close the promotion is to achieving the necessary goal.

However, if you like big houses, parties, and fishing, and don’t like Stamp Duty – it certainly does look the ticket.
