Finally Del’boy may be coming out on top.
You don’t see many Dereks around these days, but if you are one of the lucky few you will be able to sell your home for free with HouseSimple.
The online agent has launched an offer just for those with the name.
Anyone called Derek will have the usual £995 no sale no fee price waived if they sign up to HouseSimple before the end of June.
The name Derek was among the top 20 most popular names back in the 1930s but was last in the top 100 during the 1970s, ONS data shows.
HouseSimple is looking to bring the name back with its own TV ad campaign featuring a man called Derek.
Sam Mitchell, chief executive of HouseSimple, said: “For all those Dereks out there who dream of one day seeing their name rise to prominence again, we’re delighted to do our little bit to help raise their profile.
“Alongside offering the best value no sale no Fee proposition of any estate agent in the UK, to coincide with our new TV advert, if you are called Derek and sign up to sell your property between now and the end of June, we will sell your house for free.”

What about “Gary” ???
What a load of Dereks.
Wow! No expense spared there then
What about those whose parents plumped for Derick?
Or Derrick?
…or Deryck?
Are they to suffer the same discrimination that the Arthurs, Cedrics, Normans and Herberts out there will have to endure, simply because their parents wanted them to be even more ‘different’?
I feel a movement coming on…
So, a 25 year old Indian female has zero chance of being able to take up such an offer.
Very discriminatory. Age, Race & Sex.
Blatant nameism.Discriminating against all people not named Derek. I am offended. My human rights have been infringed. I demand a public apology. I demand compensation. I demand counselling.
Sounds like a good scheme to me – just changed my name to Derek.
I have seen better advertising campaigns…
I’ve seen worse. Angry Terry’s wedding breakfast comes to mind.
D is for Derek and also for Desperate
