TV property pundit Henry Pryor says he will buy lunch for online agent Russell Quirk after the latter claimed victory over forecasts for this year’s housing market.

With less than a fortnight to go – but not quite all the official figures in – it looks as though Quirk may be right and Pryor may have conceded defeat.

Pryor had forecast that house prices would fall 4% this year.

Quirk had forecast they would go up by, er, 4%.

So who is right?

Well, the Land Registry’s latest figures may only go to October, but they show a 3.86% rise in house prices in England and Wales.

Quirk also forecast a rise in interest rates to 0.5%. He was right on this one too.

However, the offer of a free lunch will not cost Pryor too much: it is at McDonald’s where prices start at around £2.

We look forward to hearing how they get on with their festive meal, or will it be seasonally adjusted?
