A well known local estate agent hanged himself in his office, an inquest heard.

Nigel Green, who ran Target Property Services in Paignton, Devon, was found dead by his wife Jenny, also a director.

She went to work at 9am and was met by a member of staff who could not get into the property, which had been locked from the inside. She broke a window to get inside and police were told.

The inquest was told Green had tried to commit suicide when a previous estate agency he ran went into liquidation.

Coroner Ian Arrow recorded a self-inflicted death.

Green was a larger than life personality who once staged Nigel Green’s Yes Factor where contestants  who wanted to go and work for him sung, danced and juggled in front of an audience, with the final staged at the Grand Hotel in Torquay. His rationale was that to be a good estate agent, you had to be a performer.

Disaster struck amid the recession, and his nine-branch business which employed 60 people went into administration in 2009. He had founded the business in 1991.

Green went missing but was found by the side of a reservoir and taken to hospital. He recovered and went on to establish Target Property Services, which according to Companies House is now in liquidation.
