Television presenter Kirstie Allsopp held back a social media storm yesterday as she said people should physically, rather than virtually, view homes.
The Location star commented on a Twitter post by her co-presenter Phil Spencer regarding the latest Zoopla advert, stating that home buying would be quicker if people “got out and viewed houses”.
She said: “If folk actually got out and viewed houses in the flesh rather than online the process might not go at a snail’s pace.”
Her comments were met with some support, but also plenty of respondents complaining that estate agents always needed so much information.
One Twitter user said: “Ever tried to view a house via an estate agent – question after question… I don’t want to give my life history – I want to view a house!”
Allsopp replied: “Those questions are important, a good agent should get to know you and what you are looking for.”

She is right, too many use the satellite view and all the other info to help form their opinion, making them inflexible and searching for the perfect house…with no compromises which simply does not exist! The reality is different. Get out and view. I have had 2 viewings on different properties cancel this week based on what the buyers perceived were issues with an area…an area that neither had ever visited before, even though one had ancient blue bell woodland and has never ever been on the market.
At last the penny has dropped for Kirstie ! Other similar organisations may find out if they are clever.
Surely the big stagnation effect occurs at the Sold Subject to Contract phase, or should that be ‘hell’.
They do Kirstie. Go spend a day in an estate agents office and you’ll see how it all works. People see a property on RM or Zoopla (probably not OTM) and if they like it, they view it…..in the flesh!! Sometimes if they like it they make an offer and about 3 months later they move in.
