Shelter has a new chief executive.
She is Polly Neate, who is currently chief executive of domestic violence charity Women’s Aid.
Neate will take up her new role in August, succeeding Campbell Robb who left in January to head up the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.
Shelter Scotland’s director, Graeme Brown, is acting as interim chief executive.
Neate said: “Since Shelter was founded 50 years ago it has done some amazing things.
“From helping millions of people through its services every year, to recently putting the country’s lack of affordable homes centre stage and securing key campaigning victories like the bans on revenge evictions and letting fees.”

I completely agree. Shelter have become little more than lobbyists to government nothing near the original reason that they were set up as a charity! If they can afford to pay a ceo just north of £120,000 a year then they are clearly a business and no longer a real charity. If they focussed on doing rather than trying to interfere with other businesses such as letting agents then more people would respect them but I’m afraid that as with many charities nowadays they concentrate on self self self and self.
Succeeding in driving up rents as well. Shame Shelter don’t do constructive work like building accommodation to assist reduce the housing shortage and make housing more affordable. It should be made illegal for any charity to spend any funds on employing people at more than a basic salary. CEO’s earning massive salaries is not charity it is business and they should face all the costs other businesses have to pay.
