All three leaders of the three deposit schemes are due to attend a meeting on Thursday called by Generation Rent director Alex Hilton.

Eddie Hooker of Mydeposits, Kevin Firth of the Deposit Protection Service, and Steve Harriott of the Deposit Protection Scheme, have all agreed to go and meet Hilton at his bequest.

However DPS did reveal what is behind the meeting.

Asking to meet Firth, Hilton said the object of the meeting was “to discuss how deposits are protected under the Deposit Protection Service and to see how we could work together to improve tenancy deposit protection across the industry”.

Hilton is said to have called the meeting after the recent Channel 4 news item on tenants’ deposits. He apparently found issue with the way one case was dealt with, and wants to see that the same “flaw” is not replicated elsewhere.

Eye understands that although it may appear that the three scheme bosses have meekly agreed to the meeting, in reality they will present a united – and tough – front.
