A former policeman who ran a valuations scam has been jailed for three years.

Glyn Keatley, who served in the South Yorkshire police force between 1977 and 1984, ran a business, Anglian Holdings.

He persuaded his victims to pay for valuations on their properties on the promise that they would get mortgages at good rates.

Altogether the fraud totalled £31,577.

When victims expressed concern, he told them that one of his sons had died and another son injured in an accident.

York Crown Court heard that unknown to his customers, Keatley had been convicted in New York of similar offences.

He had flown to Tenerife in 2010 but was extradited back to Britain earlier this year.

Keatley pleaded guilty last month to ten counts of fraud.

Sentencing him, the judge told Keatley that his remorse was “only skin deep”.

DS Andy Kenyon from the Major Fraud Investigation Team at North Yorkshire Police, said afterwards that people like Keatley needed to be brought to justice and he was satisfied this had been done in court.

“Keatley is a deceitful individual who unlawfully obtained large amounts of money from innocent people,” he said.

“It is good news that he will spend time behind bars for the fraud he has committed.”
