Stuart Andrew

Housing minister Stuart Andrew has become the latest minister to resign from the government.

Almost 20 Tories have now quit government or party positions within the past 24 hours, with other backbenchers withdrawing their support.

Andrew said moments ago: “It is with sadness that I am resigning as housing minister. I pay tribute to all my ministerial colleagues, officials, and civil servants in the Department and the wider sector. I look forward to continuing to serve my constituents in Pudsey, Horsforth, and Aireborough.”

Prime minister Boris Johnson appointed Andrew as the minister for housing in February.

He was the 11th different UK housing minister of the last 12 years, which is a remarkable turnover in a department that requires slightly longer-term planning to help solve the housing crisis.
