A survey is being carried out by the NAEA into its members’ opinions.
Despite not being a member or even an estate agent, Eye was able to answer the survey easily until the last question, where we did not submit our response.
It is not in fact totally clear whether the survey is being carried out by NFoPP or the NAEA, and one of the questions it asks is how agents view the relationship between the bodies.
Although the questions relate to the NAEA, the survey is introduced by NFoPP executive chairman Michael D Finn MBE.
He asks whether the regional TV advertising campaign was effective, and whether NFoPP is achieving its objective of being the “go to membership organisation for property professionals and the first stop for the consumer”.
Among other questions, the survey asks agents what they think about SAFEagent, ABTA and BSI, and also what they think of the NAEA brand – even asking them whether they view it as obsolete.

Sorry Robert, but I think you give them far too much respect and credit. It is successive management that has led to poor standing they offer. NVQ’S are not worth paper they are printed on (I have a number of them!) Far more industry specific qualifications should be in place before allowed to value or even negotiate such as mortgage advisers and surveyors have. And more importantly the public need to be educated in the bodies. Very few have heard of ARLA NAEA now flip the coin to FCA / FSA very well known to the public. If anybody is still looking at this thread I ask anybody to give me just 2 real benefits to joining? Bear in mind I am an experienced agent, forward thinking with a good reputation. Sorry Robert not directed at you, NAEA is a pet hate of mine!

With respect, I do not believe for one second that anyone could give you a single ‘real benefit’ to this organisation that you would acknowledge – as let’s face it, you are not exactly a fan!
I’m not saying you are wrong either. I was a Member for about 8 years, but let my membership lapse around 2008. There was more than one reason for this including a career change – but in fairness the best part of a decade of peeing against the wind to an organisation that was only interested in your CPD form and not your opinion on the industry was the overriding factor – as paying the subs to keep the letters was an easy option.
WHICH, in my opinion, was and still is the main problem with the organisation – and one which they (…STILL…) seem unable or unwilling to deal with.
Being realistic – if the Association themselves can’t provide sufficient buoyancy for your kayak then what chance have I or any individual posting here of floating the good ship ‘smile please’…?
Self serving pigs! – Do nothing for the industry.
Take vast sums of money in the way of membership fees and “Training” which as Robert points out NVQ (Not Very Qualified) is a joke.
The public don’t even know about them, its about buying letters to put after your name.
You talk to anybody and it sounds like Doris from the WI helping out.
Needs a complete revamp with proper leadership and direction instead of the 1970’s line of thought they currently have.
I don’t think the NVQ is a joke in fact I think it a valuable minimum entry qualification for new entrants into the profession.
I don’t think NAEA are self serving pigs they are an executive who are and will naturally struggle to rebuild an association after a period of complete mis-management. Winding the clock back a few years it is possible to note what went wrong, who exactly was responsible and the failure to act decisively and effectively. With that period now passed an almighty effort is required to put things back on track. They won’t do that be repeatedly turning away those capable and experienced enough to help them.
Can you suggest a plausible excuse for them being unable to return phone calls? To forget once is a shame, to do so 3 times is simply bad maners.
I tried submitting a query electronically through their site. It took weeks to get a reply as it turns out it was not working. This is the organisation upholding standards?
the “go to membership organisation for property professionals” My experience is that there is a bit or sorting out at NAEA before they are a go to organisation. Last summer over a 3 month period I have tried to renew my Fellowship of NAEA. It appears that studying for, sitting and passing 5 3 hour written examination papers in Law , Valuation, Planning, Economics and Surveying are no longer valid as qualification for NAEA membership despite still being acceptable to RICSs. Rather perversely 28 years experience in the industry including enough to have ever become |a Fellow in the first place and being the programme Director in charge of training over half the industry in best practice property management and client cash accounting isn’t enough experience, I apparently need an NVQ! I have to say having tried to go back there I was reminded why I came away.
